Very moving moments written with absolute clarity He has chosen to find the slices of life that move him to fiction among mostly working people in the part of Michigan that begins somewhere north of Grand Rapids and goes up as far as Beaver Island and that always stays west of 131 He does allow himself poetic or stylistic flourishes in one or two of the very short stories ones that might actually be considered experimental and those might have been my favorites Worst criticism is that the book feels too short but that could also be read as a plus keep the reader wanting

This collection of short stories was beautifully written In each story I found a familiar place whether in a feeling or a memory I think because of the author's ability to take me there After I read one story I looked forward to the next

This book basically it was convinced me I don't like compilations of short stories I really wanted to like this since it was part of a library challenge and the category was Michigan authors If most or all of these stories were based in Michigan you wouldn't know it The stories didn't draw me in or make me want to read It felt like reading a bunch of Facebook posts from people you don't know I wouldn't recommend

Reading this collection of short stories briefly wrapped me in the many Michigan seasons I have enjoyed The author's intimate knowledge of the landscape and its people lends a distinct uality to the stories I enjoyed the open endedness of the stories many of which carried the melancholy tone of overcast spring days and fall drizzles but left the possibility of the hope and wonder of a warm glimpse of sunshine and a robin's song
