Ok nowWell I'm gonna be honest I was worried this book would fall totally short This is one of those times where the blurb doesn't do the book total justice You go into thinking one thing and then you come out of it a few hours later a totally changed and giggling idiot I LOVED this book I hate to turn on the gush valve but I'm just being honest The author knew what she was doing when she recreated the Rumble fairy tale and sprinkled it with so much pretty moments a rich plot crazy characters and a really awesome male and female lead This is important to me You can literally sometimes write characters that have no chemistry Form the moment Rue and Juliana met its like fireworks They really don't like each other all that much and that lean so much to the story telling The romance is built in a three month time period most people would call that insta love I would call that a fairy tale retelling You know you have to really careful with this Or you end up like the show Once Upon A Time and in a trap full of holes you can't write your way out of Vivi Andrews wrote this story so strong that I put it down maybe once and that was to get my daughter ready for bed before I picked it up again It was well written smooth sexy and had you sobbing at certain points I would love for Vivi to write retellings This one had me so hooked and I would keep giggling because I was so happy to have found this on Netgalley I received a copy of this book from the Vivi Andrews via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

What a great novella I loved this twist on Rumplestilskin I'm not an expert on politics so I don't know if the ones in this story were realistic but I enjoyed anyway Juliana was a heroine I liked and Rue Rumplestilskin had a lot of depth for a character in a novella It was a nice balance of story and sex and even a battle If you enjoy fairytale retellings I predict you'll like this one

Retelling of RumpelstiltskinI really enjoyed this book Been awhile since I've heard this story and this has some nice twists on it I have read other books by this author and haven't had one I didn't like yet A sexy take on the fairy tale I liked this version as I didn't always see a creature from the Fairy lands being small and twisted and as described in the fairy tales This made it seem real to form of what I imagine fairies to be like I would recommend this book

Review posted on The Eater of Books blogSpinning Gold by Vivi AndrewsPublication Date June 16 2012Rating 4 starsSource eARC from NetGalleyWarning this is an adult book and for the eyes of mature readersSummary from GoodreadsRumpelstiltskin Revisited No princes need apply Forced by a tyrannical prince to spin straw into gold Juliana finds an unlikely ally in a handsome gold skinned man trapped inside her enchanted medallion Drawn to him by a mystical connection together they must find a way to escape the prince who demands they keep producing gold for him or die Juliana Ravel will do anything to save her innocent brother from the executioner but what the supposedly charming prince demands is impossible Spinning straw into gold? He might as well ask her to fly Her only hope is a family heirloom a gold medallion rud to be the magic prison of one of the fabled golden faeTrapped inside the medallion for hundreds of years Rue isn't fool enough to trust Juliana but he can’t help but be tempted by the feisty beauty Even though she is the spitting image of the witch who betrayed and imprisoned him Rue agrees to help her For a price Entranced by the exotic golden skinned man Juliana agrees to his terms believing her worries are at an end But when the tyrannical prince finds her surrounded by riches he isn’t about to let her walk away – instead holding her prisoner within the corrupt court Juliana’s only freedom is her nights with Rue where their negotiations turn to seduction and together they construct a desperate plot to escape a life where they must keep spinning gold or dieWhat I LikedI absolutely adored this book I have a thing for retellings especially fairy tale retellings This is a Rumpelstiltskin retelling Rue or Rumpelstiltskin is trapped in his own medallion by a Ravel ancestor Juliana finds herself in a desperate predicament and unknowingly calls Rue from the medallion to help her Rue is one of the golden fae and can spin straw into goldSounds exactly like the story right? There is a handsome prince who wants to marry Juliana after the first night of the gold spinning He wants to marry her for her gold spinning abilities though in truth she has none Juliana is trapped and all she wanted to do in the first place was free her imprisoned brotherThis book itself is really short but the story takes place over several months Juliana tells the prince that she can only spin straw into gold three times in her life and all three must be separate nights of the full moon So three full moon passed in this book Three times does Juliana meet RueAt first Rue absolutely loathes Juliana because he thinks that she is the Ravel that trapped him in his medallion But he uickly realizes that she is not as she is much too nice for a Ravel The two of the them fall in love and by the third night of a full moon they decide they can't be without each other Unfortunately by then the prince has decided to marry JulianaI love the progression of Rue and Juliana's relationship The two of them have instant chemistry when they meet and that chemistry never fades While they only meet three times in the real world Rue finds a way to enter Juliana's dreams and he visits her in her dreams for some nights And what um NICE dreams they were ;Yes Ms Andrews definitely turns up the steamy in this book Rue is yummy I want my own golden manBasically I can tell you that this book was awesome in the world building romance characters and plot There IS a very cool plot There is a revolution which Juliana joins at the end to overthrow the prince But the ending is greatWhat I Did Not LikeThere wasn't much that I did not like I kind of just wish that this book was longer I knew it would be short when I started the book but I wanted interactions between Rue and Juliana There were several but I wanted you know? This would have been an AMAZING full length novelWould I Recommend ItIf you're looking for a short and sweet romance novel then totally It's a really creative retelling and I have no regrets reading itRating4 stars What a fabulous book

Full disclosure I received a free ebook through NetGalley in exchange for an honest reviewI’m generally suspicious of fairytale retellings especially Rumpelstiltskin ones but the blurb for Spinning Gold was irresistible It sounded like a wonderfully uniue retelling that was well written with great world building For once my impressions from the blurb were right Spinning Gold is a great Rumpelstiltskin retelling and it even explains how we got our ugly little man idea from the ‘real story’Unlike so many female main characters in fairytale retellings Juliana is an amazingly strong narrator that carries the whole book on her shoulders She’s not passive when her brother is accused of being a traitor and instead bargains with what is essentially her own life with the evil prince to save him When she promises that she can spin straw into gold she knows she may be only buying herself and her brother a trip to the executioner but that night in her cell she discovers something amazing her family amulet When she cries on it Rue springs forth and almost kills her believing her to be her great grandmother the woman who trapped him inside it in the first place Not exactly a great start to a relationship but they eventually work things out and Rue spins gold for Juliana which brings her trouble than she bargained for as now the evil prince wants to marry herStill despite the threat to her life from being at court she is drawn to Rue in her dreams and finds herself slowly falling in love with the mysterious man At the same time she tries to continue what her brother started with the rebellion to overthrow the prince But being the prince’s fiance doesn’t make that easy in the slightest So you can see why Juliana is one of my favourite narrators she doesn’t just sit by Rue is also one of my favourite love interests because he’s tortured and untrusting of Juliana but it’s actually for a good reason As he slowly warms up to her the romance between them explodes but remains believableThe world building in this is fantastic I don’t want to spoil too much by saying that Rue’s bargain with Juliana is nothing like the Rumpelstiltskin story we know but does actually resemble it in some aspects So where did the Rumpelstiltskin legend we know today come about? Well let’s just say that the un charming prince and his adviser Torlemain were excellent spin doctors and leave it at that As for how Rue is able to spin straw into gold that’s also part of Vivi Andrews’ amazing world building in her fantasy worldThe plot isn’t frantically paced but rather slowly speeds up as the book goes along For a short book that’s awesome and none of the character development or world building is sacrificed in the process At the same time you won’t be able to put Spinning Gold down The romance between Rue and Juliana is sizzling and there are so many plot twists your head will be left spinning by the end Yet the plot twists still make sense and I love how Vivi Andrews hinted at them a little but not enough to spoil the fun at the endSo to recap Spinning Gold is a great fairytale retelling with believable characters awesome world building and a fast paced plot that will keep you reading into the early morning hoursI give this book 55 stars

You can also read this review at Reflections on Reading RomanceVivi Andrews is one of my favorite Paranormal Romance authors so when she had a contest on her blog for her new short novel Spinning Gold I immediately signed up I was thrilled when I won woo hoo but when I went to Goodreads to rate the book I was surprised to find that not a single review had been written so I thought I'd write up a uick oneUnlike many of Ms Andrews’s paranormal romances Spinning Gold is a re telling of the story of Rumpelstiltskin Juliana Ravel finds herself in a sticky situation because her brother has been falsely accused of treason in an attempt by her country's Prince to acuire her family's considerable wealth When Juliana faces the Prince to plead for her brother’s freedom she finds herself stating that her family spins gold out of straw and she has no idea where that lie came from The Prince decides to test her claims and imprisons her Fortunately for Juliana it turns out that the family medallion she wears around her neck imprisons none other than a Golden Fae man named Rue who helps her on the condition that she free him from the medallion when he's done Over the course of the novel Juliana and Rue fall in love The book is well written and Juliana and Rue are engaging protagonists with lots of heat between them I haven't read the original fairy tale in years so I can't remember how close to the story this is but it was fun to read and the chemistry between the two was sizzling While it wasn't uite as humorous as many of the other books Ms Andrews is known for my favorite has to be The Sexorcist it did have its moments I also found myself surprised by the ending as I wasn't sure how Ms Andrews would pull off a HEA I do wish that we could have seen of Juliana’s activities aiding the revolution She finally decides to act by stirring up rumors about the Prince’s behavior and I really enjoyed seeing her overcome her sense of helplessness However there wasn’t much detail given about her activities and I would have liked to have seen a bit of her development At the beginning of the novel she was very daring in facing the Prince to save her brother but once she was thrown in prison she wilted a bit although I must admit that the circumstances would be disheartening for anyone It was great to see her regain her courage; I just wish we could have witnessed of itI believe this book is self published which I think has hurt it in terms of sales because of the lack of publicity around the book This is unfortunate as the book is as professionally written and edited as Ms Andrews’s other books and worthy of attention than it's currently receiving If you're a fan of fairy tales I definitely recommend this short novel

Juliana Ravel is seeking desperate measures to save her brother from the Prince's executioner She seeks to make an appeal and as a last ditch effort to woo the Prince to her plea she claims to be able to spin straw into gold The prince in all his shady smarmy charm accepts and Juliana could just SMACK herself for even THINKING of making such an offer At her wit's end she grasps her inherited pendant to in her hand and cries desperate tears When a man of gold appears she's stunned When the aforementioned man attempts to strangle her she gets angryWhen Rue a gold fae is summoned from his imprisonment and finds himself standing before a woman whom he assumes is the same witch who imprisoned him AND his sister he goes for blood But when the woman pleads for him to stop he hesitates The sorceress who had imprisoned him would not have plead for anything He soon realizes the woman is not his jailer but rather her great granddaughter Juliana explains her situation and though Rue doesn't really want to help he cant' help but be a bitintrigued by herThey strike up something of a friendship When Juliana begins to dream of her gold fairy the friendship begins to stretch its bounds into lover territory When the prince arrives the next day to find Juliana has miraculously managed to keep her side of the bargain he insists that she marry him Juliana has no desire to marry the pyscho but he or less threatens to kill her brother if she refuses The story moves forward to Juliana being forced to spin gold while attempting to find a way to 1 free Rue from his entrapment spell 2 wiggle her way from beneath the prince's grasp and 3 free her brother She ends up undertaking a revolt against the prince's regime picking up where her brother had left off In the process she and Rue end up becoming closer than either anticipated and they each have to weight their actions and those actions' repercussionsVivi Andrews is new to me so I was excited to both read a new author AND read a fairy tale reboot I love me some fairy tale re tellings and Spinning Gold does not disappoint As far as length goes it's toward a novella so we don't get a lot of detail on how exactly Juliana begins to stir up a revolt and what exactly goes on between her and the prince outside of their monthly exchange when he expects her to spin gold We do however get a nice glimpse into the blooming attraction and relationship between her and Rue It's sweet and gradually becomes pretty sexyI enjoyed this book It's well written edited and offers a fun unpredictable twist on a classic tale If you're looking for a short and enjoyable read give Spinning Gold a shot

Rumpelstiltskin gone from ugly nasty little old man to tall strapping golden skinned young man? What's not to love? I haven't seen many twists on this fairytale and this is one I really enjoy However I think the novella could've really been extended into a novel to better tell the story There were some parts that I felt like were rushed through and I would've liked to see of For example Juliana falling in love with RumpleI always like to see how to romance develops and I missed some of that in here Also she could've been involved with the revolutionaries by that almost seemed to be skipped just so that we could hurry up and get to the ending But personally I don't mind taking it slow to get the ending if the in between is good Maybe it's just a personal preference but I definitely would've liked to see I'm also rather curious about Juliana's great grandmother's story she seems like a feisty strong willed woman and it'd be kind of neat if there was a novella about her as wellAnd that's my main complaint with this book It certainly was fast paced and there was some good romance but it was too fast and almost too focused on the romance aspect A good read but not great technically I think I'd give it around 35 stars This digital copy of Spinning Gold was given to me by NetGalley Vivi Andrews in exchange for an honest review

Not your childhood telling of Rumplestiltskin The version I read as a child Rumple was not a charming or handsome man He was scary and odd Juliana Ravel has much better luck In this telling our heroine is not trying to save her drunken braggart father Juliana is on a mission to save her brother from execution He has been convicted of treason against the crown Gasp I am not really sure why she said she could spin straw into gold She needed to stall but what she was hoping to happen I just do not knowSide stepping that small issue Juliana does find herself locked in a tower with mountains of straw The necklace Juliana wears a family heirloom conjures up Rue Another coincidence that lines up perfectly thank goodness for the heroine Rue or Rumplestiltskin was cast into the necklace by Juliana's ancestor He isn't happy to be face to face with a Ravel again Good news is he can spin that straw into gold Over the next two meeting they fall in loveAs I am reviewing the book I am coming up with some plot holes Nothing major They are a little bothersome because plot holes tend to bounce around inside my brain I am familiar with this author I like her work and will continue to read it The first book in her Serengeti Shifters series is terrific While this is not Ms Andrews best work it was entertaining
