I may be biased my amazingly talented critiue partner wrote this and I know what went into this story and how much of herself she bled onto the pagesI love the characters especially the side characters Tamara writes amazing supporting roles The angst is the perfect amount to be real believable relatable and though present isn't overwhelming And then there's the swooooooooony love interest Oh DominicIf you love true to life fiction and a lead character you can imagine adoring in real life this one's for you

When I got the email from the publicist with all the amazing books from Swoon Romance I wanted to grab them all but seeing as I'm trying to reduce my review pile I was very good and only selected two and Just Breathe was one of the books that really stood out to meWhen I began reading I instantly loved the protagonist Elle she works in a library which is my dream job but also that she has synaesthesia and I think this is only the second book I have read that deals with this subject While the beginning of Just Breathe shows us Elle in not the best way dealing with her boyfriend up and leaving she turns to pot to help her cope and while it does for a little bit she soon gives it up to try to be a healthier person Elle lives with two friends who she didn't tell the whole story about her boyfriend and while they are good and are there for her they don't really understand her reasons for wanting to stop smokingEnter Dominic someone who Elle bumps into in the library and after some chasing she finally agrees to go on a date him I love how he finds out information about Elle and asks for ideas that would help and when he finds out about her synaesthesia he still wants to go on a date The lengths he goes to to ensure Elle has a perfect date are romantic and thoughtfulJust Breathe was an enjoyable book and I don't want to say too much about what happens I do like the synaesthesia aspect and how it's a tactile and sound thing for Elle and while I wouldn't want to have this myself you have to give credit to Dominic and Elle's friends for learning how to live with this for ElleNear the end of the book there were moments that I was shocked over what transpired and wanted to slap someone across the face I also wanted to shake some sense into Elle with how she deals with things The ending was perfect for this book and also relates back to something that happened earlier on and I wish I could see what happens when Elle makes this discoveryOverall Just Breathe was a uick but enjoyable read that had me laughing crying and sighing over the romantic gestures I think we all need a Dominic in our lives

35 4 stars ARC provided to G the Book Diva blog in exchange for an honest review This was an ok read for me It didn't rock my world but the story line kept me interested This was a case of opposites attract Elle is a librarian and recovering pothead Dominic is a wealthy lawyer who loves to read Sparks fly the moment they meet in Elle's libraryHe's all What books do you recommend? and she's all Do you like Coupland? Mind you Elle is full of insecurities due to the crappy way her ex boyfriend broke things off with her It doesn't help that Dominic has a very busy work schedule and he's not exactly forthcoming with details about his life Even still they try to make a relationship between them work but blatant secrets and omissions of the truth can do a lot of damage to their fragile beginning Honestly Elle bothered me the most I found her very odd and a bit judgmental I was also thrown off by how uirky and nerdy she seemed when we were in her head yet she behaved like any other girl when interacting with Dominic I would have liked her uirkiness to show with Dominic It would have helped me understand why she was so special to him Anyway this is still a story worth reading

This was a cute romance Dominic is amazing in his ways He’s kind and sweet thoughtful and gentle everything you want in a guy He plans dates around Elle and making her happy How incredible is thatJason is a douche Majour majour douche He so deserves everything he getsthe story is about a girl who is left without explanation by her boyfriend and she begins to feel a little less confident in herself This self doubt sends her down a temporary destructive path After a while elle comes back to her senses and sees she is hurting herself As she is trying to get over Jason dominic walks into her life he changes the game for her The support and kindness he shows her is incredible and what she needs to feel good about herself againwhile things are going good life gets in the way and misunderstandings occur Elle lets her self doubt get in the way and has things fall apart Fortunately for her Dominic doesn’t give up He dogs her and they do work things outA story of love and trust About finding someone who completes you and does things to make you smile without wanting anything in return A story of understanding and happiness You will love dominic and his treatment of Elle Her roommates and best friend will crack you up as well A fun cute story that will definitely have you swoon over dominic

A complimentary copy was provided by author for Blog Tour Buy Link Just Breathe 35 Stars Just Breathe was the first book I have read by Tamara Mataya I enjoyed the storyline of this book but I have to say it didn't WOW me I thought the writing style and flow of the book was wonderful and the pace moved the story along at the right speed What I did have a problem with was part of the storyline that I thought didn't need to play such a huge part of the book I loved that this book was about a Librarian Don't see those very often as a heroine and she was suffering from a condition I had never heard of before I thought including those factors really made this book stand out for me But like I said the author had a aspect of this heroine's life play to big of a part of the story and it made me uncomfortable recreational use of drugs I felt she was condoning this type of behavior This is all in my opinion and what bothered me might not bother othersI did like the characters she created but I will say that I had a hard time connecting with Elle I really didn't feel what she was feeling I can't really explain why there was the disconnect there just was Some of it might have to do with the extracurricular activity that Elle and her roommates had Like I said it made me uncomfortable so that might be why I wasn't able to connect with Elle Dominic on the other handI loved him I thought he was amazing The stuff he did for Elle and her condition was great He showed her that he didn't care that she was living with a condition that made it hard for her to leave her house He did everything possible to make their dates special I have to say you don't see many guys who go to these lengths just to date a woman He had me swooning for most of the bookAs for the secondary characters we meet I really only liked Marie I thought she was a great friend to Elle and told her like it is I was kind of sad that she was cut from the story about half way through I know there were extenuating circumstances but I thought she could've kept a small part to the story I thought Kennedy and Nick weren't the best friends to Elle She lived with them and they didn't notice that something was really wrong after Elle's Ex dumps her I have to believe that in a real life situation they would've noticed Elle behaving differently I think they were just too wrapped up in themselves and their bad habitAs for recommending this book I think it is worth the read I loved the love story and courtship between Elle and Dominic I wish it would've been of the focus I also thought that the ending was rushed a little and kind of abrupt I thought that both Dominic and Elle were willing to forgive and brush things under the rug a little to uickly This book is a standalone with a completed story but I wouldn't mind another maybe novella to really complete their storyFor reviews go to Book Bitches Blog

Disclaimer I read this so long ago and loved it immediately Tamara's writing is always sensual in the literal sensory meaning of the word but writing about a girl with synaesthesia really drives the point home Even now long after my first reading I feel tangibly connected to the characters and their world in a way that rarely happensElle and Dominic might be the center of the story but every character carries their own weight The other librarians Elle's eccentric and lovable roommates and everyone else who makes an appearance on the page just feel so much like real people that it's hard not to become a part of their livesFor a book called Just Breathe I found myself having to take the title to heart often It just took my breath away

  9. Marisa Cleveland Marisa Cleveland says:

This book is what reading is all about Elle is real and edgy and dealing with life and Dominic is the guy who we all wish we ran into at the library Loved everything about this book

Review originally posted at Ramblings From This ChickJust Breathe is the first book that I have read by Tamara Mataya and I really enjoyed it I really liked all the characters including the secondary characters I also enjoyed Tamara's writing style and was able to really get into this story I will admit that it took me a bit to get into this one but once things started to pick up I was hooked I know I will be looking for from Mataya in the futureElle's boyfriend Jason broke up with her in one of the worst ways possible he didn't break up with her at all Months ago he said he was going out of town for work and then he just stopped calling or texting and never came back She throws herself into her job at the library and hangs out with her friends She has been self medicating with pot in order to cope She decides to uit smoking and stay away from pot after awhile Everything seems to be getting worse though when her best friend accepts a job in Spain and her roommates start acting weird She ends up meeting a sexy guy at the library though and she can't help but be drawn to him Dominic asks her out and things finally appear to be looking up Dominic and Elle grow closer and seem to be really hitting it off That is until Elle catches Dominic in a lie When her ex resurfaces around the same time Elle begins to wonder if maybe Jason has changed Does Elle take a chance with Dominic despite his lie or does she try to trust Jason again and hope that he doesn't break her heart a second time?I really liked Dominic from the very start He was sweet and thoughtful and he seemed to genuinely be interested in Elle He went out of his way to make things nice for her and he even took into consideration her Synaesthesia and how that would affect their dates I loved that he was always doing things that he figured she would like but they were always so uniue and different He was able to come up with some of the coolest and most different dates that I have ever seen in a book and I loved that he did it just because he wanted to I liked Elle but there were a few things about her that got on my nerves I didn't like that she seemed to be so hung up on her ex Jason even after everything that he did to her I just felt like she needed to let it all go She seemed to be really interested in Dominic but then she would be comparing him to Jason or thinking about her past with Jason I thought that what she was developing with Dominic was so strong that she should have left Jason behind completely I liked how passionate she was about her job and books though She was so excited just to be able to share her love of books with others and you could tell that she was truly happy with her job regardless of how much money she made I thought that Dominic and Elle had a lot of chemistry right off and I liked that they really got to know each other They were a great fit for each other and their relationship was than just sex I liked that they were developing real feelings for each other and took it a bit slow even if they were extremely attracted to each otherOverall this was a really great book I liked the characters and I thought that the story was good I will admit that this story started off really slowly to me I was having a really hard time getting into this one and it seemed to be really detailed and lagged I was feeling bogged down with all the details and all the pining over her ex and how Elle had been so upset by what he did But once we got beyond the details of her job and books and heartbreak over Jason the book really started to pick up After that I really just got sucked into the story and didn't want to put this one down I liked Elle and Dominic and I thought that they were such a great couple I really recommend this story to NA fans and I think that these characters are so easy to like and relate to This one is one that I had a really good time reading and I think a lot of others will too I look forward to from Tamara Mataya in the future and can't wait to see what she writes next ARC Provided by Swoon Romance PR
