This is the 2nd book in The Kota series The four Kota warriors from book one are center stage again but there are also some new characters introduced which adds some nice varietyThe story starts where book one left off The warriors have gone through a portal into a new dimension and crash landed on Ebon a new planet The species they meet the Ebonites are descendants of humans some time ago but have changed genetically over time to better adapt to their world Due to this there are similarities between this species and humans but there are also differencesThe Ebonites are in a fierce struggle with the native species of Ebon and the core conflict in the book centers around this Will the Leader of the warriors help the Ebonites defeat their enemy? Will she turn against them? Or will she even recover from a crashing blow to the head when the landed? What’s interesting about this novel is that three of the warriors are almost secondary to the overall plot The Leader Bullseye remains a key driver for the story which I love because she’s such a strong female character but the main character after that is newly introduced Ebonite also a strong female I love how concepts from book one flow into book two but are thoroughly explained and even expanded You began to understand the broader implications of the portals and the “gifts” bestowed on the warriorsThe author also did an amazing job creating this new world Due to the human link there are some similarities but she adapted references to time manner and even culture into a fascinating society – great world building I’m also really pleased she answered a uestion that was bothering me from book one as well as filling in some other gaps I will also say that Trok has grown on me a little this time as I wasn’t so fond of him in book oneOverall it’s a well written well developed and thoroughly entertaining story

I loved the first book in this series and wanted to be blown away by this one I was There are many really great writers in this genre but few I have read who create such amazing worlds The detail Sunshine Somerville goes into really brings her characters and settings to life making them both powerful and easy to imagine This series really is pure escapism transporting you to another place for the time you are lost in its pages

I knew this was going to be a five star read from the beginning For my money it is actually better than The Kota which I loved as I think there is another level of complexity to the ever evolving saga I really liked the change of focus and as usual Sunshine Somerville creates awesome worlds and characters

Review from BookViralcom Always original and compelling Sunshine Somerville continues the tale of The Kota as she adds a thrilling new dimension to her epic saga and it’s sure to captivate your imagination It isn’t an easy genre for authors to distinguish themselves and competition remains fierce but Somerville has definitely made her mark with her imaginative world building prowess She laid the foundations in The Kota and whilst she relies on genre tropes this time around she still manages to instil them with her own distinctive perspective There’s certainly nothing pedestrian about Somerville’s work She instinctively understands the devices of her chosen genre and what it takes to stand out Delivering another superb story with gathering momentum she moves beyond the plight of The Kota to introduce a raft of new and vividly rendered characters that draw readers into her ever evolving distant world whilst dulling the edge of predictability with opportune revelations that keep the pages turning A rousing and highly satisfying page turner The Ebonite and Her Earthling proves a fine addition to The Kota saga and is sure to be well received by fans of the series and beyond It is recommended without reservation

I really enjoyed the author's first book The Kota and was looking forward to the seuel Again she demonstrates her mastery of rich textured prose and multi layered deep characters Again she has that distinct voice that is so important in any author She is truly invested in her characters especially Cliani the unsung heroine of this novel who is not flashy but earns a deep reservoir of respect through her mature unselfish and noble deeds as doctor to the sickUltimately my only issue with this book is that much of the beginning and continuing past the halfway point is a long slow build to the action that starts in the last uarter of the book The world building and the development of character is wonderful and a patient reader would appreciate this build up than I wouldFor the most part in this book the four warriors were all split up and the leader of the group spends a long time in recovery It does allow for reflection and deep bonding but it may have been a bit slow for me and felt a bit disjointed as they all pursue their own paths But other readers may feel differentlyAll in all a very different book from the first Kota book with its own uniue strengths
