And while I strive to be true, to prove I am not like my mother, despite my bloodline, I will always be the one the others watch carefully I will always be a witch And I feel such a stain will never wash away Oh wow What a sequel I already know that Jennifer Murgia will impress me with her skills to transport me into Runes s world and with her amazing writing but what I did not expect is that she will surpass all my expectations Castle of Sighs floored me And while I strive to be true, to prove I am not like my mother, despite my bloodline, I will always be the one the others watch carefully I will always be a witch And I feel such a stain will never wash away Oh wow What a sequel I already know that Jennifer Murgia will impress me with her skills to transport me into Runes s world and with her amazing writing but what I did not expect is that she will surpass all my expectations Castle of Sighs floored me Everything I ever wanted was given and Jennifer even gave me some bonus that I don t think I deserve.I highly suggest that everyone read the first book of the series I read some reviews saying that they didn t know that this was the second book in a series at first but still, they read on There s really nothing wrong with that but of course, the experience will be a whole lot better if you ve read the first one Rune grew up a lot As I read through the Castle of Sighs, it s obvious that the author made some huge characters developments in our main protagonist Rune was a young and confused witch at Forest of Whispers but in here, she embraced who she is and tried to be better despite all the negative and cruel things that people kept throwing at her Yes she s a blood witch, but that doesn t mean she s part of the problem The writing was so magnificent Jennifer Murgia just enthralled me the whole way I was sucked in from the first chapter and the story did not let me go until the very end I have to double check my surrounding for a moment every time I read Castle of Sighs so that I can remind myself that I m reading in my bedroom and not roaming the castle along with Rune Everything about Murgia s writing is absolutely beautiful. All the characters charmed their way into my heart And what s the best is my Laurentz Rune shipper heart is happy and swooning I admit that I was left asking forbut I get that it was not the main focus of the book I was still satisfied with the little romance that the author inserted Castle of Sighs is a solid follow up to an amazing book Not only did it maintain the mysterious and enchanting vibe of the series but it intensified it evenLooking for the perfect read this season This series got you covered

Castle of Sighs was a creepy follow up to Forest of Whispers Where the first novel fell a bit flat for me, this book did not Murgia s writing improved a lot, and the characters grew by leaps and bounds in this installment The plot was fast paced and intriguing, and even though I was thoroughly creeped out at several points, I couldn t put this book down This is the perfect Halloween read Rune wasn t the best character, in my opinion, in the first novel, but she really stood out in this book Castle of Sighs was a creepy follow up to Forest of Whispers Where the first novel fell a bit flat for me, this book did not Murgia s writing improved a lot, and the characters grew by leaps and bounds in this installment The plot was fast paced and intriguing, and even though I was thoroughly creeped out at several points, I couldn t put this book down This is the perfect Halloween read Rune wasn t the best character, in my opinion, in the first novel, but she really stood out in this book She had grown up a lot, and she was determined to do what was right for herself, her family, and those she cared about She was brave, though sometimes reckless, and she learned a lot about herself and her craft this time around We also got to learnabout Laurentz in this book He wasn t around as much as I would have liked for him to have been, but we learned a lot of stuff about him, including a secret that he didn t even fully know about himself He was gallant and responsible, as usual, but he really opened his mind in this book By the end of the story, I really loved and supported both Rune and Laurentz. The plot was really creepy, and at times flat out horrifying Murgia had a lot of my fears in this novel, and I ll admit that I had to have my cat, Joey, protect me one night while I slept after I d stayed up late reading Yea, I m a pansy like that, haha Murgia s descriptions came alive in this book I was fully immersed in the historical world she painted, and I felt as if I were there with Rune The switching from Rune s perspective to Matilde s perspective in the middle of the story really made everything seemrealistic The author did a fantastic job of showing instead of telling The writing itself was well done, and the story unfolded at a fast pace The ending tied everything up, and the big reveals and action sequences kept me on the edge of my seat I didn t see a lot of the revelations coming, and I enjoyed that Overall, I d recommend this book and series to anyone who wants to read a good historical fantasy story with a super creepy twist This novel isn t light and cheery As I said, it s perfect for the Halloween season Give these books a try You won t be sorry

I received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.I had no idea that this was the second book in a series, and by the time I realized, it was too late But I trudged on, because the story seemed fascinating.Who doesn t love a castle Better yet, who doesn t love a creepy castle with a haunting story behind it.The one bad thing about this story was that BECAUSE I had not read the first installment in of these books, I missed a fair deal, and the past story is either mentioned or I received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.I had no idea that this was the second book in a series, and by the time I realized, it was too late But I trudged on, because the story seemed fascinating.Who doesn t love a castle Better yet, who doesn t love a creepy castle with a haunting story behind it.The one bad thing about this story was that BECAUSE I had not read the first installment in of these books, I missed a fair deal, and the past story is either mentioned or hinted atthan once so I felt slightly lost throughout. That didn t stop me from enjoying my read, but it made it slightly difficult wholly my fault, of course.Throughout, I was drawn in and enchanted by the darkness of Castle of Sighs A few passages read somewhat rough for me, not too polished, but it doesn t alter the interest of the story. This was one of my few forays into tales about witches, and twas welcomed one

Malevolent forces were watching and lurking in the shadows Rune was coping with these forces since she was reclaiming her birthright These forces or spirits were technically witches, but for most of the book it seemedlike a ghost story The story moved very slowly until over halfway through it Then many secrets began to unravel all at once The truth about Laurentz was odd Other than the fact that it made him and Rune have a bond, there wasn t any point to it or at least not one I coul Malevolent forces were watching and lurking in the shadows Rune was coping with these forces since she was reclaiming her birthright These forces or spirits were technically witches, but for most of the book it seemedlike a ghost story The story moved very slowly until over halfway through it Then many secrets began to unravel all at once The truth about Laurentz was odd Other than the fact that it made him and Rune have a bond, there wasn t any point to it or at least not one I could discern The story was wrapped up with this installment, but it felt disconnected in many ways from Forest of Whispers The setting was completely different The witch hunt trials weren t really a factor in this I had been hoping for Rune to really come into her power, which she did in her own way Magic just happened when she needed it she never had to learn or struggle to do anything I was satisfied with the ending but wished a fewthings had been included in the story.I received this in exchange for an honest review from NetGalley
