What a happy surprise this book turned out to be It was a totally random purchase and I absolutely fell in love with it Obviously, judging it by the 5 stars I gave it It starts off with Claire at a bar with her boss and coworkers celebrating a grant that their research team was due to receive Claire s boss, a pube faced toad of a man that had the hots for her, had finally pushed her a little too far So far that a bouncer stepped in to make sure Claire was OK The bouncer was Edward Asto What a happy surprise this book turned out to be It was a totally random purchase and I absolutely fell in love with it Obviously, judging it by the 5 stars I gave it It starts off with Claire at a bar with her boss and coworkers celebrating a grant that their research team was due to receive Claire s boss, a pube faced toad of a man that had the hots for her, had finally pushed her a little too far So far that a bouncer stepped in to make sure Claire was OK The bouncer was Edward Astor Ed for short And he was just about the most handsome man that Claire had ever laid eyes on.After the little issue with her boss and Ed intervening on her part Claire decides to walk home Ed, being a gentleman and a tough guy, doesn t want her walking five blocks, alone, at night So, he takes a break and walks her home I was hoping for some hot monkey sex at this point, but it didn t happen But I was pretty sure it was coming, eventually. The next day, Ed is waiting for Claire..to walk with her to work Some might view this as creepy and stalker ish, but I didn t I thought it was sweet It s pretty obvious from the beginning that Ed is a little different, but he never comes across as creepy Socially awkward and a little shy, maybe But never creepy So anyway he walks her to work and they re the first ones there so she brings him in and shows him around the lab where she works Ed is a little freaked out he doesn t like labs or doctors but Claire keeps the mood light and even introduces him to her favorite test subject..a lab rat named Wilma There s also a hot make out session in the supply closet before the rest of Claire s coworkers get to work YUMMY And while Claire s day started out good, it goes downhill from there She gets fired because she refused to support her boss when he told her he was planning to falsify data in order to secure the grant money And it only gets crazier from there And I mean crazy in a good way Like, crazy as in action packed Claire almost gets killed twice, there s a fire, some car chases, some motorcycle chases, and a whole lot of crazy hot monkey sex Good Lord, you will fall in love with Ed It s that tortured Alpha male thing again That gets me every single time That, coupled with the fact that Ed is just a big ole teddy bear when it comes to Claire Swoon I mean, really What s not to love Along the way, we meet Ed s friend, Darwin, and we also learn a little bit about their past and how they both came to bedifferent I won t spoil it here, but let s just say that it s Top Secret Government Off The Record type stuff It explains a lot, but it also opens the door wide open for manybooks to come.Don t get me wrong, I did have a few issues with this book The resolution played out a little too easily, a little too neatly In out clean escape problems solved But the problem solving didn t get mentioned except in the epilogue as our couple is driving into the sunset I would like to have seen all of that played out over the course of a chapter or two, rather than having it mentioned merely as an afterthought BUT..I didn t write it, so I have to respect the author s choices But even with that, I still can t give less than 5 stars because I did love the characters so much.Ya know, I feel so smug about having found this book Why smug Because it was a great story with lots of hot sex, action, and a hero I could really fall in love with and I discovered it all on my own It wasn t a recommendation from anyone I know, what am I.a five year old LOOKIE I did it all by myself And further, I don t even remember how I found this book to begin with I think it was an impulse buy ondue to those customers who bought this book also bought this book I think But whatever the reason, I m so glad I found it Experimenting With Ed happens to be the first in a series that will focus on all the men that were altered I know from reading the author s blog that the next book with focus on Ed s friend, Darwin There are 5 men in all, so I can only assume that there will be 5 books in the series All of the men were assigned letters and when they escaped, they choose their own names We have Ed, then Darwin.because I m a genius, I m guessing the remaining three guys will have names that start with C, then B, and finally A Bring on boys D, C, B, and A I can t wait

3 1 2 stars I enjoyed this novel with a chatty heroine and a laconic hero This was a fast paced easy read with the majority of the action happening in about 4 days In this case that didn t bother me at all I wasn t really looking for a realistic story and I really enjoyed the interaction between the slightly goofy heroine and the quiet but alpha hero He had been experimented on and had some unusual but not out of the realm of possibility abilities There are apparently 4 other guys who esca 3 1 2 stars I enjoyed this novel with a chatty heroine and a laconic hero This was a fast paced easy read with the majority of the action happening in about 4 days In this case that didn t bother me at all I wasn t really looking for a realistic story and I really enjoyed the interaction between the slightly goofy heroine and the quiet but alpha hero He had been experimented on and had some unusual but not out of the realm of possibility abilities There are apparently 4 other guys who escaped from the testing facility with him I m looking forward to their stories. This was well written with no big editing problems The writing style was easy and accessible Well done. Thanks melissaB for the loan

This was good, just not great The outside drama took up most of the book and the couple had very little time to just be They were almost always on the run I love a good romantic suspense, but this needed a bitromance I liked Ed and Claire They definitely have chemistry This book was the first in a series so it ended in a HFN to be continued in the next book I will probably read the next book since I do want to know what happens. This is a very safe book No cheating or OW OM issues This was good, just not great The outside drama took up most of the book and the couple had very little time to just be They were almost always on the run I love a good romantic suspense, but this needed a bitromance I liked Ed and Claire They definitely have chemistry This book was the first in a series so it ended in a HFN to be continued in the next book I will probably read the next book since I do want to know what happens. This is a very safe book No cheating or OW OM issues Light spoiler below view spoiler Since Ed was experimented on and they wiped his memories I am so paranoid that if they succeed in figuring out who he is, he could have a wife or girlfriend I know it is strange, but I could not stop thinking about it hide spoiler

4.5 StarsI received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads I have to say that the beginning of this book was a bit odd Well, not the very beginning, but the first few times we meet Ed I wasn t sure I liked him He was well, he was a bit creepy However, thewe get to know him theI really liked him I felt like he had so much that we didn t get to see underneath his tough exterior He s been through a lot and it s obvious that there is much to come in the ser 4.5 StarsI received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads I have to say that the beginning of this book was a bit odd Well, not the very beginning, but the first few times we meet Ed I wasn t sure I liked him He was well, he was a bit creepy However, thewe get to know him theI really liked him I felt like he had so much that we didn t get to see underneath his tough exterior He s been through a lot and it s obvious that there is much to come in the series about what him and the other soldiers have been through Claire is a bit odd for not completely freaking out on Ed, but then again she is a dork in her own mind and words so it worked for me She is silly and the complete opposite to the oh so serious Ed It s cute watching her learn little tidbits about Ed and what he can do Her reactions are awesome and made me love her She s an oddball and it s always nice to see when an author can pull the silly sweet intelligent combination off The book is definitely action packed with some cute moments While we don t necessarily get a ton of background on Claire, there is a reason why we don t with Ed and it really didn t matter to me We got to see our characters connect in ways that didn t need to know their past because their present was enough of a connection to forgo it in my opinion.I can t wait to see where this series goes for sure There is a lot still to find out about the men and their situation

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads The story premise is a good one, but somehow it just fell flat to me Claire is a shy, nerdy lab assistant who meets Ed, the bouncer at the bar where he boss is trying to sexually harass her Ed defends Claire and walks her home.Something about Ed appeals to Claire and she can t stop thinking about him Then someone tries to run her down with a car and set her apartment on fire Ed is there for her, like a superhero There I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads The story premise is a good one, but somehow it just fell flat to me Claire is a shy, nerdy lab assistant who meets Ed, the bouncer at the bar where he boss is trying to sexually harass her Ed defends Claire and walks her home.Something about Ed appeals to Claire and she can t stop thinking about him Then someone tries to run her down with a car and set her apartment on fire Ed is there for her, like a superhero There is a lot of action in just a few days, but we don t learn much about Claire s background, family, friends or Ed s other than he has one friend named Darwin Perhaps book two will haveanswers than questions Wicked Reads Review Team

3.5 stars Experimenting with Ed is my first Katie Allen book and I found it an entertaining and quick read overall Although the story was relatively simplistic, Allen has an interesting premise with the former military research subjects of enhanced soldiers With memories of their previous lives wiped, the men have escaped and are are trying to blend back into normal life, while staying under the radar to avoid detection Our somewhat clueless and na ve heroine Claire catches the attention 3.5 stars Experimenting with Ed is my first Katie Allen book and I found it an entertaining and quick read overall Although the story was relatively simplistic, Allen has an interesting premise with the former military research subjects of enhanced soldiers With memories of their previous lives wiped, the men have escaped and are are trying to blend back into normal life, while staying under the radar to avoid detection Our somewhat clueless and na ve heroine Claire catches the attention of Edward , a bouncer at a local club when her boss makes untoward advances to her After walking Claire home, Ed takes it upon himself to protect Claire, showing up to walk her to work and back again Claire takes it all in stride, even though this behavior is a tad on the creepy stalker side Still it s evident that he s a sweet, if somewhat socially backwards, guy and when Claire s life is suddenly in jeopardy, Ed is there to protect her There s lots of steam in this one even when on the run they manage to find time for themselves Ed is the real highlight of this book a real take charge alpha guy who s quiet, and a bit unsure of himself and his allure Allen does of good job making him lovable, though I do wish that we could have gotten some of the story from his perspective If Allen ever gets around to writing stories for the rest of the guys, I plan on checking them out

I really enjoyed this book The heroine, aside from one scene where she did something extremely stupid and unrealistic, was great Finally a scientist heroine who is actually smart and has common sense She is also comfortable with herself and her strengths and weaknesses, which is a great plus finally a confident woman The hero was such a cutie And I have a serious weakness for the escaped lab rat hero genre XD I made that name up on the fly So yeah, the only cons I can think of are th I really enjoyed this book The heroine, aside from one scene where she did something extremely stupid and unrealistic, was great Finally a scientist heroine who is actually smart and has common sense She is also comfortable with herself and her strengths and weaknesses, which is a great plus finally a confident woman The hero was such a cutie And I have a serious weakness for the escaped lab rat hero genre XD I made that name up on the fly So yeah, the only cons I can think of are that one scene where the heroine acts completely stupid and does something she really should not have been capable of doing, and the fact that world building is lacking Maybe the book was too short.Re read 13 March 2016 didn t even realise it s been one year I m tempted to up my review to a 5 star it s just so sweet and cute and I love Ed
