There s a wonderful sense of circularity to this novel that like a younger girl s 13 Minutes shows just how unpleasant teenage girls can be.We start with a group of girls making their way to the local drowning pond on Halloween One of the group is not meant to return. Then we switch back in time so we can see the build up to the situation We watch Nicky, desperate to fit in, get sucked into the vile behaviour of Queen Bee, Isabella They are determined to make Lizzie Brown pay for what th There s a wonderful sense of circularity to this novel that like a younger girl s 13 Minutes shows just how unpleasant teenage girls can be.We start with a group of girls making their way to the local drowning pond on Halloween One of the group is not meant to return. Then we switch back in time so we can see the build up to the situation We watch Nicky, desperate to fit in, get sucked into the vile behaviour of Queen Bee, Isabella They are determined to make Lizzie Brown pay for what they think she has done wrong.I think this is probably best suited to teen readers who can be horrified by the creepy goings on and empathise with the girls involved

I read this when I was about 14 15, and quite liked it Looking back, it was quite predictable, but hey, it s teen fiction What interested me in it I was a bit of a goth by then was the grim title and the ideas it conjured up I thought it was going to be muchhorror ish than it actually was My favourite thing about the book was something you see rarely in any sort of media the inclusion of the characters horoscope signs Those things are often irrelevant, but I always find it i I read this when I was about 14 15, and quite liked it Looking back, it was quite predictable, but hey, it s teen fiction What interested me in it I was a bit of a goth by then was the grim title and the ideas it conjured up I thought it was going to be muchhorror ish than it actually was My favourite thing about the book was something you see rarely in any sort of media the inclusion of the characters horoscope signs Those things are often irrelevant, but I always find it interesting to know a character s star sign In this book it was semi relevant given the overall theme of witches and the occult

The Drowning Pond, written by Catherine Forde, is a very scary, and dark story about the relationships between a group of teenage girls A horrific bullying event takes place at the beginning of the book, and then the book skips forward in time to explore what happens in the girls lives after the event I couldn t put this book down, and I was petrified, my heart was pounding and I was actually sitting on the edge of my seat , turning the pages to find out what happened next.

I really liked the way this book was done It was first person all the way though, though with different characters The author managed to put such wittiness in each of the characters that I thoroughly enjoyed, even when some of those characters weren t so nice.
