Having lived in South Africa for a few years I was very keen to find a first book to read that would give me a broad overview of the history and help me figure out where I wanted to dive deeper This book is basically that an extremely cursory glance at the whole timeline from prehistory to the 21st centuryIt is very brief One could argue it is too brief in some sections Nevertheless if its purpose was to whet my appetite for reading South Africa history I think it was successful You can read it in a few hours so if that's all the time you had it's probably worth picking up

Great “little” book that tells the history of South Africa in 139 pages Very well written and just what I needed as I get ready to visit the country I found the section on prehistoric finds particularly interesting Highly recommend

A perfect little history book about South Africa from prehistoric times to post apartheid and skimming lightly over everything in between
