Another beautiful book of short stories by Eric Emmanuel Schmitt I seriously cannot recommend his works enough This is only the second collection that I've read but I've since bought everything he wrote translated in English that I could I've never been one for short stories something about the brevity of them made me feel like they were always unfinished but I LOVE his stories They are so magical yet written so beautifully Simplistic yet full of detail The Europa edition includes pages from the author's diary from the time in which he was writing these stories They offer some great insight into the author's passion for short stories which really made me understand why I loved his so much I also loved the idea of how the writer becomes the character in whose perspective he is writing How do authors of crime novels manage to lead a normal life? I fear for my loved ones Over the last few days I've become as vicious as my killer I am no longer the least bit charitable I kill people with my remarks and it leaves me jubilant In the kitchen I see flasks not of oil or vinegar but poison; I dream of horrible things while I season my sauces Yesterday evening I was almost disappointed to be serving a mushroom fricassee which contained nothing dangerousHaving read his stories I found it incredibily interesting to go back and imagine him living through the eyes of his characters especially the evil onesThe title story is definitely the best so if you only have the opportunity to read one read that one So poetic
